Maduro creates General Staff for Non-Oil Exports and orders intervention in ports

On Thursday, September 19, President Nicolás Maduro headed the Economic Council, chapter on Exports from the Port of La Guaira.

The president signed the decree with the rank and force of law to establish the General Staff of Non-Oil Exports, which will be headed by Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, “and will concentrate all the ministries and institutions linked to exports.” According to Rodríguez, Venezuela exports 250 products made in the country and more than 500 companies produce for export in 15 states.

During his speech, broadcast on national television, the president said that his government is focused on the economy and its productive export vocation, “an economy that produces for itself and begins to produce with high quality for the whole world.”

Maduro also announced the Venezuelan Export Promotion Agency, whose president will be Daniela Cabello. The instruction is that this agency will focus on studying ways to reach all destinations and routes “and explore Venezuela’s enormous potential to sell hundreds of quality products.”

He announced the appointment of the Board of Supervision of the Ports of Venezuela, which will be headed by Rear Admiral Germán Eduardo Gómez Lárez, the new president of Bolipuertos. “I am appointing the board that will intervene and restructure, a global restructuring of the country’s ports,” he said.

This Thursday, Nicolás Maduro also signed the decree for the liquidation of the National Center for Foreign Trade (Cencoex).

During the broadcast, he made several comments about being next to a person who “coerces,” in reference to Delcy Rodríguez and to the statements by Edmundo González Urrutia, opposition presidential candidate, that he was pressured by the vice president and by the president of the 2020 National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, to sign the letter of recognition of the results of the July 28 presidential elections announced by the CNE and endorsed by the TSJ.
