He Republic PresidentNicolás Maduro, congratulated the ceasefire agreement between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN), reached on Friday in Havana, Cuba.
In a message posted on his Twitter account, the president ratified Venezuela’s “unrestricted support” for the dialogue process that “contributes to achieving definitive and true peace in favor of the Colombian people.”
Venezuela backs President Petro
Through a statement issued on Friday by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Venezuela “celebrates the signing of the agreements for the processes of participation of society in the construction of peace and the bilateral, temporary and national ceasefire, reached in this successful day that constitutes a definitive path for peace in our sister Colombia”.
The Bolivarian nation, which served as the guarantor country of the negotiations, expressed its support for President Gustavo Petro, “for the firm will to promote total peace in Colombia.”
Havana Agreement
The Government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN) group signed on June 9 a bilateral ceasefire, as part of the negotiations that are taking place in the Cuban capital.
The Minister for Foreign Relations of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, stressed that the ceasefire will last 180 days and will be extendable if necessary.
