Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduroconfirmed having had a conversation with the President-elect of Colombia, Gustavo Petro. According to Maduro, the talk focused on peace, the border and the future of both countries.
Through his social networks, Maduro pointed out that in dialogue with Petro “and, on behalf of the Venezuelan people, I congratulated him on his victory. We discussed the willingness to restore normality at the bordersvarious topics on peace and the prosperous future of both peoples”.
Like Peter, Maduro did not reveal more details about the conversation despite the fact that from the Colombian side it was known that the goal is to open the common border to return to promote the transport sector, industry and commerce on both sides of the border.
After closure to the passage of vehicles in 2015 by Maduro and the breaking of diplomatic relations on February 23, 2019also from the Colombian side, it is expected that during 2022 they will return to resume contact between the two countries.
