The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, ratified his absolute support for his Honduran counterpart, Xiomara Castro, and her husband and ousted former president of the Central American country, Manuel Zelaya.
“The Bolivarian people stand in solidarity with just causes under any circumstances, especially when US imperialism is stalking us in its attempt to recolonize the continent. The peoples of Latin America are on alert,” the head of state said on his social networks.
He also highlighted the massive mobilization of the Honduran people this Saturday to show their support for President Castro. “Seeing the images of the Honduran people in the streets, mobilized, joyful and combative, I agree with Xiomara’s words: ‘True independence does not stop until victory is achieved,’ and we will win. A warm hug!” said Maduro.
In another post, the national leader stated that “in our hands the Great Homeland will never be lost.”
He stressed that “imperialism and the international right must understand once and for all that the time of colonialism is over, that now is the time for free peoples. Long live Honduras! A Big Bolivarian Embrace!”
The Honduran people took to the streets of Tegucigalpa this Saturday to express their support for the government of President Xiomara Castro, in the face of the attempted coup d’état that the leaders of the traditional parties of that country are seeking to carry out. From early hours, thousands of people filled the main avenues of the country’s capital until they reached the central event in the vicinity of the Government House, where the first national leader, together with the Executive branch and the leaders of the Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) party, gave a speech full of Honduran patriotism.
