Maduro approves Bs 10 million digital revolving fund for climate change

The governor Nicholas Maduro led, this Friday, May 6, the closing of the First National Congress of Researchers on Climate Change.

During the speech, from La Casona Cultural “Aquiles Nazoa” in the state of Miranda, the president approved the creation of a National Revolving Fund of Bs 10 million digital renewables to address the climate crisis.

According to him, it is important for his government to educate young Venezuelans about the effects of climate change. So, ordered the expansion of the Brigades against Climate Change through coordination with high school and university students.

He instructed “to create millions of Brigades against Climate Change to change the system and save the world.” According to the president, there are already 3,000 activists in the country. These brigades began in January of this year.

The Brigades against Climate Change date back to last January, when they began actions with 500 young activists who were deployed during the Carnival and Easter holidays.

Maduro also approved the national scientific journal and the National Climate Crisis Observatory to monitor and evaluate scenarios, as well as present plans. Regarding the activities of the observatory, Maduro warned that he hopes to have a monthly report, if possible.

In addition, the Center for the Study of the Environmental and Global Crisis was created, under the responsibility of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC) with which, according to Maduro, Venezuela will be at the forefront. The network of knowledge, experiences and knowledge around the climate crisis will also be formed.

During his speech this Friday, Nicolás Maduro said that Venezuela has had a short but intense period of drought, with forest fires and damage.

“During the month of April 300% more water fell, compared to previous periods,” he said.

The official affirmed that global warming is a reality that is experienced every day and, in this sense, he referred that it is expected that, in the next 20 years, a warming of 1.5ºC will be reached or exceeded. Likewise, Maduro ordered State institutions to adapt to the circumstances of climate change and prepare to deal with the way in which it affects the country.

“We must unite all the force of knowledge, with all the force of the people, of Venezuela, of Latin America and the world, recognizing that this is a planetary phenomenon,” he said.

In the same way, he referred that “the great destructive capitalisms, the United States and Europe, are simply satisfied with applauding each other, signing a document and nobody does anything, the United States and Europe have destroyed the planet with highly polluting gases.”

During Maduro’s speech, information was given about the holding of an environmental sanitation day and the beginning of the training camps for the brigades against climate change in the state of Carabobo.

On the other hand, Maduro reported that he spoke with the president of CubaMiguel Díaz Canel, to whom he expressed his solidarity for the explosion of the Hotel Saratoga, a tourist icon in the historic center of Havana, which left several dead and injured.
