Maduro appointed Félix Plasencia as Venezuelan ambassador to Colombia

The president of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduroannounced this Thursday that his former foreign minister felix plasencia Will be your new ambassador in Colombia, in the framework of the process of normalization of relationships between the two countries after the coming to power of the Gustav Petro.

“I want to announce that former foreign minister Félix Plasencia, who was former ambassador to the People’s Republic of China and who is today president of the International Investment Center in Venezuela, I have appointed him as the next ambassador to the Republic of Colombia and already the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry has requested the approval of the Colombian Foreign Ministry and will soon be in Bogota“, Maduro said in statements by the state channel VTV.

The countries, which had faced tensions for years, had signed an agreement last week to advance the approach process once Petro took office as President.

Normalization includes, in addition to the diplomatic process, the opening of the porous border of over 2,000 kilometres which has been closed to vehicles since 2015 and partially open to pedestrians since the end of last year.

This vast area has also been marked by years of violencewith the presence of guerrillas, paramilitaries and drug traffickers.

Two days ago, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrinoannounced that he would establish contact with his Colombian counterpart to “restore” military relations.
