Maduro announces creation of maximum security prisons for protesters

MADRID, Spain.- The Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro announced the construction of two maximum security prisons for demonstrators arrested during the recent post-election protests. These demonstrations broke out last Sunday, July 28, in rejection of Maduro’s reelection and his electoral fraud.

From the Miraflores Palace, the Venezuelan president declared: “I have decided to create these two maximum security prisons for all the new generation gangs that are involved in riots and criminal attacks.” With these words, Maduro refers to the protesters who have taken to the streets to demand democracy and express their discontent with the Chavista regime.

In the speech, which he shared on his X account (formerly Twitter), he threatened: “There will be no forgiveness, nor contemplation,” and stated that the so-called “fascist criminals” will be sent to the new prisons in Tocorón and Tocuyito so that they “pay for their crimes before the people.”

The aim of these new prisons, according to Maduro, is to turn them into productive farms: “Like they did back then, when they took them out to build roads. There are many roads to build, so they should go build roads,” said the dictator.

“We have more than 1,200 captured and we are looking for 1,000 more and we are going to catch them all,” added the president, who has unleashed a wave of violence in the country that has cost the lives of more than a dozen of people.

On Wednesday, Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab, assured that there will be no mercy for the more than a thousand people arrested during the protests. In a press conference, he reported that the Public Prosecutor’s Office had arrested 1,062 people after the election results were announced.
