Maduro and Petro sign a Joint Declaration to strengthen binational relations

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, together with the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, signed a Joint Declaration on Tuesday, with the purpose of initiating the new era of relations between both nations.

From the Ayacucho Room in the Miraflores Palace, the Head of State described the first meeting with the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, as fruitful.

“We have had a fruitful, intense and extensive day with President Gustavo Petro and his delegation. We have discussed various issues of bilateral cooperation between Colombia and Venezuela, two countries that have a common destiny », he said.

In this sense, Maduro said that they discussed the strengthening and cooperation between Monómeros, Pequiven and all the work that has to do with fertilizers.

Likewise, Maduro pointed out that among other issues they addressed the re-entry of Venezuela to the Andean Community of Nations.

In this regard, he stated that in the coming weeks different activities will be carried out to publicize the steps to follow.

Similarly, both Presidents addressed the issue of strengthening international organizations, such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), as well as the recovery of the Amazon were also common issues.

Similarly, they discussed to raise a common position to COP 27, which will take place on November 6.

The national president pointed out that, between the talks, proposals were discussed to strengthen trade relations between both nations, which includes reopening the border in its entirety.

“We have a set of important issues that we have to work on from now on related to the commercial issue, border security, the fight against drug trafficking and in terms of our relations,” Maduro added.

The Dignitary reiterated that the first meeting with President Gustavo Petro “is truly auspicious, with good results” and that it augurs “good news for both populations” in the remainder of 2022.

“Surely we will be directing – from 2023 onwards – the steps of integration and strengthening of relations between our peoples, our governments and our two countries,” he stressed.

Under this premise, President Maduro reaffirmed to his Colombian counterpart that “you will always be very welcome to the Homeland of Bolívar, to our beautiful Homeland.”

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro arrived in Venezuela this Tuesday afternoon. Upon his arrival at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, he was received by the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, and Foreign Minister Carlos Faria.

The New Granadan President received the honors corresponding to his investiture.
