Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said the country will create a special commission with the help of Russian and Chinese advisers to assess the country’s cybersecurity system. Venezuelan authorities say an attack hacker destabilized the National Electoral Council (CNE) communication system on election day, delaying the body’s work.
According to the Venezuelan leader, behind this attack was the multibillionaire Elon Musk, owner of the X platform, formerly Twitter, and of several industries, from electric cars to satellites.
“It was proposed and decided to create a special commission to evaluate, with Russian and Chinese advice, the security system of the country that is being attacked, and especially the attack that caused serious damage to the CNE communications system. The Electoral Power will inform the country, but the advice has already been requested, as I am sure that the attacks were directed by the power of Elon Musk,” said Maduro.
In recent days, Elon Musk has been attacking Maduro and the Venezuelan elections on social media. In April of this year, multibillionaire attacked Brazilian justice for taking decisions against alleged groups organized on social media involved in January 8, 2023 in Brazil, when supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro invaded the headquarters of the Powers, in Brasília, questioning the 2022 election result.
CNE
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) has been under pressure in recent days to release the electoral records that allow for the audit of the results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which gave 51.21% of the votes to Maduro against 44% to Edmundo González.
As the minutes were not published, part of the opposition has alleged fraud and called for demonstrations.
Violent acts and protests have occurred in several parts of the country and there are already estimates of deaths, dozens of injuries and hundreds of arrests. The Maduro government accuses it of an attempted coup d’état and opposition forces are calling for the military to take action against the government.
“Behind this plan that I have denounced is the empire of the United States, Colombian drug trafficking, Elon Musk and the fascist extremist right of the world. They came against Venezuela because they believed they could take it. Based on all the social media campaigns to destabilize a society,” Maduro said in a meeting with the Council of State Ministers.
