Love forces everyone to do crazy things, but these four ‘Scaloneta’ fans broke all the molds. They crossed 15 countries and two continents to reach Qatar and support Lionel Messi in his last World Cup
Before the start of the World Cup, these four athletes arrived after 10,000 kilometers traveled. It took them almost 200 days to reach Doha, the capital of Qatar, and be at the top football event.
“The physical wear and tear was enormous, but the experience was wonderful and now we have to enjoy a madness that became a reality”, one of them stated to the portal La Nación.
Who are the protagonists of the feat? Lucas Ledezma, Leandro Blanco Pighi and Silvio Gatti. Together they formed the idea and executed it without hesitation. According to what they say, it all started with a chat between friends, in which there is usually much speculation, but nothing ever comes to fruition.
Messi was a fundamental piece to encourage and convince them to materialize the daunting task. It was impossible not to go to encourage the ’10’ in his last World Cup.
Difficulties appeared throughout the entire journey. At some point they ran out of money they had brought, they were helped by a follower on social networks, they had to process an unexpected visa to Saudi Arabia, in addition to more daily problems such as hygiene, food and shelter.
The tour started in Cape Town on May 14, from where they went up until they reached the venue of the sporting event. They traversed all of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
After more than half a year ‘pedaling’, they lived the dreamand celebrated Argentina’s victory over Mexico at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
