Senator Lilian Samaniego (Red officialdom) declared herself pro-life and pro-family when defending the agreement with the European Union, aimed at improving Paraguayan education but which is being questioned by conservative sectors for allegedly introducing “gender ideology”. .

Lilian Samaniego held a press conference before the accredited media in the Senate, to express her position on the repeal of the agreement with the European Union for the Support Program for the Transformation of the Educational System in Paraguay and its annexes.

The congresswoman stated that it is catholic and pro-family, and announced that he will speak with the authorities of the Catholic Church. “Everyone knows that I am Catholic, I believe in one God. (…) Thank God my family sent me to a school that marked my life, I am pro-family, I respect other religions and those who do not believe in a God, ”she added.

The senator clarified that the agreement with the European Union (EU) is financial and that she will always be careful that no one tries to change the values. “I will maintain my firm position so that do not change the values ​​of our society”, he remarked.

Likewise, he regretted that this sensitive issue is used in the middle of the electoral campaign. “A whole campaign of distortion and misinformation was put together, it is important to understand that the agreement does not require the introduction of gender ideology, Paraguay has the sovereignty to define its educational policy,” he said.

The legislator mentioned that the EU donated 168 million euros between 2014 and 2020. Of that donation, 85 million euros were earmarked for education and the rest to invest in social protection, small and medium-sized companies, non-governmental organizations and the scientific society of Paraguay, among other areas.

According to Lilian, the agreement between the EU and Paraguay is for financing the support program for the transformation of the national education system and is not related to or interferes with the project design of the Paraguayan educational transformation strategy for the agenda 2030.
