In a second meeting with Mexican businessmen, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, discussed the flow of investments and trade between the two countries, which occurs on the eve of the signing of the Modernized Global Agreement.
After the French president met in the morning with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and some members of his cabinet, Macron held a second meeting with the country’s private sector at the Industrialists’ Club, a space in which he also presented the decoration of the French Legion of Honor to Carlos Slim Helú, the country’s wealthiest man.
At the conclusion of this meeting, Francisco Cervantes Díaz, leader of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), described both meetings as “very good.”
The business leader commented that the approach at the National Palace with President Sheinbaum was a direct dialogue with French and Mexican businessmen. “There is a great opportunity both in Mexico and in Europe and, above all, close to the renewal of the Modernized Global Agreement,” he said.
“We were talking about Plan Mexico and President Macron is very interested, because it is a very good vision of President Claudia Sheinbaum,” he indicated.
Without mentioning amounts, Cervantes pointed out that both parties are interested in increasing the flow of investments in both territories.
Some of the Mexican companies present in France are Alsea, Grupo Carso and Grupo Bimbo. The French companies in Mexican territory are Blue Orange Capital, Alstom, HDF Energy, among others.
After receiving recognition for his career, Slim Helú briefly expressed his satisfaction. The family of the most important businessman in Mexico attended the event, including Carlos Slim Domit, president of the Board of Directors of Grupo Carso and América Móvil.
Macron attended accompanied by the French ambassador to Mexico, Delphine Borione, as well as other diplomats.
For her part, Altagracia Gómez Sierra, coordinator of the Advisory Council for Regional Economic Development and Relocation (Caderr), highlighted that Mexican companies are also interested in investing in France, but to advance in energy, sustainability, industries 4.0, artificial intelligence and infrastructure, clinical research, among others.
“The idea really is that moving forward we can strengthen the sectors where it is already very consolidated, such as the aerospace industry (…) Both presidents resumed the Strategic Committee of France and Mexico, which is accompanied by an effort from private initiative in both countries,” he noted.
In turn, Sergio Contreras, executive president of the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (Comce), commented in an interview that in the meeting with Sheinbaum Pardo the delegation of French businessmen was very interested in following some of the projects of Plan Mexico, because the country continues to be “interesting” and allows participation in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, innovation and artificial intelligence.
At night, Sheinbaum Pardo offered a dinner to the French president at the Colegio de San Ildefonso.
