Former President Mauricio Macri, prosecuted in a case that is being followed for illegal espionage on the relatives of the crew of the ARA San Juan, requested judicial authorization to travel to Uruguay, where he plans to attend a conference to be held in Montevideo between March 8 and 9, judicial sources reported.
The request was made by the former president’s lawyer, Pablo Lanusse, who informed Judge Julián Ercolini -in charge of the file- that his client “received an invitation to participate in the event organized by Becon Investment Management, to be held in the town of Carrasco , Montevideo, Eastern Republic of Uruguay.
In his presentation, the lawyer requests authorization “with the issuance of the pertinent official letter to the National Directorate of Migration and other corresponding authorities, and the issuance of the certificate of style”, and states that Macri will travel to Uruguay “on a private flight departing on March 8 and return on March 9, 2022 from the San Fernando International Airport, Province of Buenos Aires”.

“As we have already pointed out in the record, Mr. Macri’s roots are amply proven, both family, social and labor, also making it clear that the trip that is reported and whose authorization is requested, does not mean any risk for the normal development of this case,” says Lanusse.
And it anticipates that “in the hypothetical case of an adverse statement to the request formulated here, since it compromises the freedom of Mr. Mauricio Macri, due process, defense in court, human dignity and his state of innocence, I formulate the reservations to appeal in cassation and the federal case”.
