Machu Picchu: all train operations are suspended due to a strike that restarts this Wednesday

Last Tuesday afternoon, PeruRail, the main train operator on the Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu route, and vice versa, announced the suspension of all its operations starting at midnight on Tuesday, in view of the resumption of the indefinite strike starting this Wednesday.

Through a statement, the railway company announced that no convoy will be leaving to or from Machu Picchu, leaving thousands of locals and tourists without being able to travel to the Peruvian world wonder.

“PeruRail informs its passengers, tour operators and the community that, in order to guarantee the safety and care of passengers and workers, starting this Wednesday, January 4, we are obliged to suspend the operations of all our train services on the route to and from Machu Picchu, until further notice”quotes verbatim from his communication.

It is worth mentioning that the cessation of these train services would be in compliance with the notification of the concessionaire for the suspension of railway operations. because security conditions are not guaranteed by the demonstrations and blockades along the railway line.

Last December the protesters they interrupted the railway line with logs and large rocks, they also burned the wooden sleepers and even removed bolts and spars from the track.
