Machinery industry loses 3.7% of net sales revenue

Industries employed 7.7 million people in 2020, points out IBGE

In the first half of this year, the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry accumulated a 3.7% drop in net sales revenue, compared to the same period last year. According to data released today (27) by the Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry (Abimaq), the sector’s total net revenue in the semester totaled R$ 150.6 billion.Machinery industry loses 3.7% of net sales revenue

Internal revenue totaled BRL 121.2 billion, a decrease of 4.8% compared to the same period in 2021, while apparent consumption was BRL 187.5 billion, which represented a drop of 7.3% in the same period. Comparation.

On the other hand, exports grew 29.2% in the semester, totaling around US$ 5.6 billion. Imports also grew, with an increase of 10.7% compared to the first half of last year, totaling US$ 11.6 billion.

Another indicator that showed an increase in the period was that of jobs. Driven by the increase in production and sales, mainly to those serving the agricultural and civil construction markets, the sector registered an increase of 8.4% in the semester, with the machinery and equipment industry employing a total of 395 thousand people.

Considering only the month of June, the balance released today by Abimaq reveals a reduction in net sales revenues, which totaled R$ 26.8 billion. There was a decrease both in relation to the month of May (-5.6%) and in the annual relation (-1.8%).

Sales to the foreign market totaled US$ 1.03 billion in June, which represented growth of 20.1% in the annual comparison. However, compared to May, there was a drop of 4.9%.

As for imports, after having grown by almost 15% in May, in June they fell again (-9.9%), reaching US$ 1.8 billion. Compared to last year, there was stability (0.9%).

Despite the negative balance at the end of the month and the semester, the association maintained its growth perspective for the year. According to Abimaq, the domestic market should show an increase of 5.8% in 2022. For the total market, the expectation is to close the year with an increase of 3.8%.
