In July, the total net revenue of the machinery and equipment sector totaled R$24 billion, a drop of 2.2% compared to the same period last year. Compared to June 2024, there was an increase of 3.2%.
According to the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (Abimaq), the monthly growth was driven mainly by exports, which increased 45.1% compared to June and 14.2% compared to the same month of the previous year, totaling US$ 1.3 billion in July. This was the best export result in 2024 and also represented a historical record for a month of July.
Imports also grew during the period, totaling almost US$2.7 billion in July, a record for the month. The increase was 15.9% compared to June and 16.6% compared to July 2023.
Apparent consumption of machinery, which takes into account equipment produced in the country and imported, rose 5.1% compared to July last year and 2.6% compared to June, driven by the improvement in imports.
The month of July also saw an improvement in employment levels. The sector ended the month with 389,279 employees, an increase of 0.3% compared to June. According to Abimaq, this growth was a result of improvements in the consumer goods machinery, components and agricultural machinery industries. However, the workforce remains below that recorded last year, with a drop of 0.9% compared to July 2023.
