María Corina Machado emphasized the urgency of putting an end to arbitrary detentions and achieving the release of the more than a thousand political prisoners that, she affirmed, exist in the country.
The opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, assured this Sunday that Latin America supports the “just fight” for democracy in Venezuela, referring to the statement of six countries within the framework of the Mercosur summit.
“We know that Latin America accompanies the just, legitimate and irreversible fight for democracy and freedom in Venezuela,” Machado said in your account on the social network
This group of countries ratified their desire that Venezuela restore democratic order “by peaceful means” and guarantees “unrestricted respect for human rights.” They also expressed their “deep concern about the serious immigration, humanitarian and social crisis in Venezuela” and urged the administration of Nicolás Maduro to immediately release and guarantee due process, as well as the physical integrity, of all citizens “arbitrarily deprived of their freedom.”
Machado emphasized the urgency of putting an end to arbitrary detentions and achieving the release of the more than a thousand political prisoners who, he stated, exist in the country.
On behalf of Venezuelans, we thank the governments of Argentina, Paraguay, Panama, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru for firmly expressing their commitment to democracy and human rights in our country, and for demanding an end to arbitrary detentions and the release… https://t.co/3UH3F8LZ73

The statement from the group of countries makes no reference to the United States or the military deployment in the Caribbean and Western Pacific. It is also more moderate than the position defended by President Javier Milei during the summit, who welcomed the military pressure aimed at “liberating the Venezuelan people” and urged his partners in the South American bloc to do the same.

On the other hand, the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, stated that a possible military intervention in Venezuela it would be a catastrophe and it would create a serious precedent for all of South America.
