Machado demands freedom from political prisoners: “They have been kidnapped and missing”

María Corina Machado said that political prisoners in Venezuela “kidnapped them for not shutting up, for defending the country.” According to the Criminal Forum in its last balance, 890 arrested for political reasons are registered in the country, including five adolescents and 61 people of which their whereabouts are unknown


The opposition leader María Corina Machado recalled her “commitment” to the freedom of political prisoners in the country, which he described as “civil and military heroes” that “have been kidnapped and missing.”

«They are parents, children, brothers, mothers and even children who have been separated from their people, isolated in torture centers and common prisons for months and even years. Many have been kidnapped and missing. Today I don’t want to call them political prisoners. They are our heroes, prisoners, civil and military heroes whose stories fill us with pride and represent an example of dignity and courage, ”said Machado in A video widespread in their social networks.

The leader said that these more than 800 people “kidnapped them for not shutting up, for defending the country, for leading and believing in a noble deed for the freedom of Venezuela (…) to them, anywhere where they are, to their families, to each Venezuelan who is protected, our strength and infinite commitment because this is worth it.”

According to the Criminal Forum in its last balance, 890 political prisoners are registered in the country, including five teenagers and 61 people of which their whereabouts are unknown. Recently, the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, proposed a “humanitarian exchange” of these detainees for the Venezuelan migrants held in a maximum security prison in that country.

Bukele directly mentioned as the object of the “exchange” to Rafael Tudares, son -in -law of Edmundo González, lawyer Rocío San Miguel, the journalist Roland Carreño, the four political leaders Assilaged in the Embassy from Argentina, as well as A Corina Parisca, mother of María Corina Machado. The latter has not been arrested, but victim of harassment.

Maduro administration described the proposal as “Morally inadmissible”and denied that in the country there are people arrested for political reasons, but that they are “citizens deprived of liberty in Venezuela for completely alien reasons (commission of terrible punishable acts).”
