They left happy for the maca harvest, but death crossed their path. At kilometer 27 + 500 of the Central Highway, section La Oroya – Junín, in the area of Caripa, where the road to Condorcocha crosses, near Cemento Andino, the truck carrying workers for the harvest collided with a trailer. As a consequence, Demer Cóndor Damián (27) lost his life and four other people were injured.

The accident happened yesterday at 8:40 in the morning. The protagonists of the rear-end collision were the white semi-trailer with license plate A5D-830 driven by Leonardo Vale Salgado and the multicolored green truck W1H-923 driven by Franklin Damián Chupos. In the latter, which ended up getting lost after the collision, several workers were traveling for the maca harvest.
The witnesses and policemen helped the injured: Gerardo Raza Chuquivilca (55), Demetrio Huata Espinoza (47), Virgilio Maximiliano Chuco (46) and Cintia González Estrella (29); All of them were transferred to the Junín Support Hospital by the hospital’s ambulance, where the director stated that the patients were stable.

After the impact and subsequent confusion, Demer Cóndor Damián (27) died in the Deviandes ambulance. By order of the prosecutor, the body was transferred to the morgue of La Oroya. Meanwhile, the drivers were transferred to the Essalud hospital in La Oroya for legal examinations.
