Turin, Italy | AFP | Olympique Lyonnais won their eighth Women’s Champions League in ten finals, beating defending champions Barcelona 3-1 in the Turin final on Saturday.
Amandine Henry (5), Ada Hegerberg (23) and Catarina Macario (33) scored in a start to the game totally dominated by Lyon, before Alexia Putellas, Ballon d’Or 2021, reduced the distance on the scoreboard (41).
It was insufficient to offer the second European Cup to the thousands of Barça fans who had traveled to Turin. The three goals conceded in just half an hour was an impossible mountain to climb.
Henry opened the scoring after five minutes, with a powerful shot from outside the area, against which goalkeeper Sandra Paños could do nothing.
After this unexpected opening blow, the French doubled their lead after a cross from Selma Bacha found Hegerberg in the middle of Barcelona’s uncoordinated defense, scoring his 59th goal in 60 Champions League games.
In another play in which the Barcelona defense was nervous, Macario pushed the ball in front of the goal to make it 3-0.
Barça seemed totally knocked out when Putellas put his team back in the game, with a goal scored four minutes before the break.
In the second half, Patricia Guijarro came close to surprising Chilean goalkeeper Christiane Endler with a shot from midfield that hit the crossbar.
The Catalan team was better in the second half, but Lyon dedicated themselves to managing the wide lead achieved in the first half to lift their eighth Champions League to the sky of Turin.
