Luqueño debuts in the Intermediate with a win

Hoy Paraguay

Luqueño beat River Plate 2-1 in what was his debut in the tournament of the second category of Paraguayan soccer.

Sportivo Luqueño today celebrated the partial return of the public to its Feliciano Cáceres stadium with a victory in its debut in the 2022 Intermediate Division.

In this sense, the team led by Miguel Ángel Zahzú beat River Plate with goals from Andrés Marisi (45′) and Derlis Alegre (88′). William Santander made the temporary equalizer for Kelito (65′).

In this way, the Blue and Gold pride started the season with good feelings and convinced of going for the prompt return to the First Division, from where it was relegated after more than 50 years of continuous presence.

A little earlier, but on the banks of the Tapiracuai, Deportivo Santaní and Fernando de la Mora starred in the first game of the season, which ended with a vibrant parity (2-2). The Rojo de Palomar took an early lead thanks to Gustavo ‘Pitu’ Velázquez (3′), but Marcos Acosta tied it quickly (10′). Acosta himself put the visiting team back in front of the scoreboard with an own goal (77′) and, finally, Arnaldo Zárate (88′) decreed the distribution of points.

This year there are 16 participating teams, totaling 8 games per day, which will be entirely broadcast through the Tigo Sports screens. The champion and the runner-up will be promoted directly to the First Division in 2023. The clubs that finish in the last three positions in the table of averages will lose the category.
