Former president Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva is the only candidate who would win the October elections against current president Jair Bolsonaro in a possible second round, according to an investigation by Futura Inteligência / ModalMais.
The leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) would beat the chief executive with 50.4% against 37.8%. The distance remained stable in relation to the previous survey, released in December of last year (43.8% to 32%).
Other possible candidates such as Ciro Gomes and Sergio Moro appeared with less voting intentions than Bolsonaro in a second round, within the margin of error. In the December study, the two outnumbered the current president.
In all the first-round scenarios evaluated, Lula is preferred, according to the study. The former president appears with 36.9% compared to 31.4% for Bolsonaro.
In December, also in the first scenario, the same institute said that Lula had 37.9% compared to 30.6% for Bolsonaro. The variations, therefore, occurred within the margin of error of the survey.
The survey was conducted between January 17 and 21, by telephone, with 30,452 interviews and 348,187 attempts. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
If these data are confirmed, Lula and Bolsonaro would win the presidential elections on October 2, but a second round, scheduled for October 30, would be necessary as part of the general elections to be held that month.
In another poll on voting preference, released just this Thursday, Lula maintained a comfortable distance in voting intentions with respect to the right-wing Bolsonaro, although without enough support to win in the first round of the October elections.
According to the survey by the XP/Ipespe firm, published in the economic newspaper Valor, Lula monopolizes 44% of the electoral preferences compared to 24% for Bolsonaro in the stimulated survey, that is, when the names are cited to the respondent of the candidates.
