President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva issued an official note to congratulate the President of the United States, who took office this Monday (20), in Washington, for a 4-year term. Trump returns to the American presidency 4 years after holding the office for the first time, between 2017 and 2020.
“On behalf of the Brazilian government, I congratulate President Donald Trump on his inauguration. Relations between Brazil and the USA are marked by a trajectory of cooperation, based on mutual respect and a historic friendship”, stated Lula. The Brazilian president also highlighted the “strong” bilateral relations, in different areas, offered the continuity of partnerships and wished Trump success.
Our countries have strong ties in several areas, such as trade, science, education and culture. I am certain that we can continue to advance in these and other partnerships. I wish President Trump a successful term in office, one that contributes to the prosperity and well-being of the people of the United States and a more just and peaceful world,” he added.
Earlier, when opening a ministerial meeting in BrasíliaLula had already mentioned Trump’s inauguration, saying he expected to maintain good relations with the Trump administration.
“There are people who say that Trump’s election could cause problems for world democracy. Trump was elected to govern the United States. I, as president of Brazil, hope that he will manage fruitfully, so that the Brazilian people and the Americans to improve, and for the Americans to continue to be Brazil’s historic partner”, he said.
