The invitation had been extended by President Luis Lacalle Pou when he was inaugurated in Brazil, on January 1. The Foreign Ministry reported that “after accepting the invitation of President Luis Lacalle Pou, his Brazilian counterpart Ignacio Lula da Silva will visit Uruguay on January 25.
Both Foreign Ministers are working on the agenda for this bilateral meeting. The day before, on the 24th, Lula will attend the meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), which will be held in Argentina. After attending the investiture, Lacalle Pou said “I invited him to Montevideo. We now have a Celac meeting on the 24th in Buenos Aires, so it seemed appropriate to remember: ‘President, I would like to receive you in Montevideo before or after Celac’”. In this way, Lula will visit Uruguay one day after being in Argentina.
