President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will inaugurate, on Tuesday (9), the Federal Police International Police Cooperation Center (CCPI) in Manaus (AM), which has expected resources of R $ 37 million. The unit will promote collaboration between the nine Amazonian countries and the nine Brazilian states that make up the legal Amazon in facing environmental crimes, drug trafficking, weapons and people.
In a press conference this Monday (8), the director of the Amazon and Environment of the Federal Police, Federal Delegate Humberto Freire, in publicity made by the government, stressed that the inauguration of the Amazon CCPI will represent a watershed in combating organized crime and the protection of the forest.
“The center will work permanently, integrating national and international efforts. In addition, integrated efforts seek decapitalization and mapping of illegal productive chains,” he said.
The director stated that there will be binding officers of the nine Amazonian states and also nine Amazonian countries, under coordination of Brazil. The Center will be supported by Interpol (International Police Entity), Europol (European Agency) and Ameripol (Agency of the Americas).
Humberto Freire understands that the center will be able to form a network to combat different types of crimes, and enable the mapping of illegal productive chains.
At the same time, the government understands that this inauguration will be a door for other development and investment programs in education to reach the most distant regions.
Repression and intelligence
According to the government, the objective is for the structure to promote articulation among those responsible for public safety in order to expand investigation actions and combat crimes in the region.
An example of the center of the Center would be in the structuring actions of the Federal Police Gold Albus project, which seeks to track the origin of the gold of the Amazon. Integration model
In June, the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, at a ceremony of the beginning of the activities of the Amazon International Police Cooperation Center, said the initiative would represent a joint integration and work model for concrete results in combating transnational criminal organizations.
“Organized crime is no longer a local problem. It is a global scourge and can only be faced with integrated, coordinated actions and constant exchange of information and intelligence between countries,” Lewandowski said at the time.
Federal Police Director Andrei Rodrigues also stressed at that event that public security should not be based on “more violence, but with intelligence, wisdom and strategy.”
The initiative was made possible with financial support from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, with resources from the Amazon Fund.
BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante argued that the center will be “the heart” of strategic intelligence to combat crime in the Amazon. ” For him, the initiative represents an improvement in monitoring and combating illegal actions.
The Cooperation Center, which represents one of the Federal Government’s deliveries within the Amazon Plan: Security and Sovereignty (AMAS Plan), is the result of the commitments made by the Amazonian countries in the Bethlehem and the states of the Legal Amazon.

In addition to the inauguration of the Police Center, the President Lula will sign a contract of the Union with Municipalities Project, in the amount of R $ 150 million. The idea is to work for the benefit of 48 priority municipalities to combat deforestation throughout the Amazon.
