President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said this Thursday (11) that he will only decide whether to sanction the so-called Dosimetry Bill when the text, approved by the Chamber of Deputiesreach the Executive Branch.
The bill provides for the reduction of sentences for those convicted of the undemocratic acts of January 8, 2023 and the attempted coup d’état and could benefit people involved in the acts – including former president Jair Bolsonaro.
“I don’t like giving opinions on something that doesn’t concern the Executive Branch. It’s something that pertains to the Legislative Branch. They are discussing it. There are people who agree, there are people who don’t agree,” said Lula.
In an interview with the program IN Minas in partnership with the newspaper State of Minas and the Uai Portalthe president assessed that Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison “because he tried to do something very serious”.
“He wasn’t joking. He had a plan to kill me, kill Alckmin, kill Alexandre de Moraes. He had a plan to blow up a truck at Brasília airport. And he had a plan to hijack Power, since he lost the elections.”
Lula recalled that, after passing through the Chamber, the Dosimetry PL now goes to the Senate for analysis.
“We’ll see what happens. When I get to my desk, I’ll make the decision. Me and God. Sitting at my desk, I’ll make the decision.”
“I will do what I understand must be done. Because he [Bolsonaro] He has to pay for the coup attempt, for the attempt to destroy democracy that he created in this country. He knows that. There’s no point in whining now,” he said.
“If he had the stance I had when I lost three elections, if he had the stance that the PSDB had when it lost three elections, if he had the stance of everyone who is democratic and respects institutions, he wouldn’t be in prison. He could be running for elections now,” stated Lula.
“But he tried to shorten the path. He tried to convince some military personnel, who are also imprisoned. And that’s what happened. So, now, here’s the thing: let the Legislative Branch speak out. When it reaches the Executive Branch table, I will make my decision”, concluded the president.
