President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ordered, this Thursday (25), the opening of an internal process at the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) to “hold accountable and expel” from the federal public service the employee of the agency who attacked a woman and a child, in the Federal District. Images of the attack are circulating on social media.
“The fight against feminicide and all forms of violence against women is a commitment and a priority of my government”, wrote Lula in a post on social media, classifying the episode as a “cowardly aggression” and “inadmissible”.
For the president, a firm response from public authorities is needed.
“We will not turn a blind eye to the aggressors of women and children, wherever they are, whatever position they occupy. A public servant must be an example of conduct inside and outside the workplace”, he added.
In recent weeks, Lula has started to lead a campaign against the feminicide and violence against women. This Wednesday (24), in a speech to the nation, on national radio and television, he stated that the issue will be one of the government’s priorities for 2026 and must be a commitment for everyone, but especially for men.
“I will lead a great national effort involving ministries, institutions and the entire Brazilian society. We who are men must make a commitment of our soul. In the name of everything that is most sacred, be an ally”, said the president.
Arrangements
Last Tuesday night (23), the CGU reported that it had already taken administrative measures against the attacker. The body announced a series of measures:
– the forwarding of news of the incident to the General Inspectorate of the Union and the CGU Ethics Committee, with the immediate opening of a preliminary investigation of responsibility, to determine ethical and disciplinary responsibilities, within the scope of administrative powers;
– the immediate revocation of the civil servant’s designation as a possible replacement for the immediate supervisor; and
– the prohibition of civil servants from entering CGU buildings while the investigations are in progress, “as an administrative measure necessary to preserve the institutional environment and the regular progress of the investigations”.
According to the body, the facts disclosed indicate a serious violation of the functional duties provided for in the law governing public service (Law No. 8,112/1990), especially article 116, item IX, which imposes on public servants the duty to maintain conduct compatible with administrative morality.
“I want to be clear when I say that violence against women and children is a crime. It is not a question of disagreement, private conflict or personal issue. We are talking about aggression, violation of the law and an affront to human dignity”, says the note signed by the CGU minister, Vinícius de Carvalho.
“In the criminal field, the facts must be investigated by the competent authorities, in accordance with criminal legislation,” he added.
