President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited today (15) BR-101 duplication works, in Maruim, Sergipe. The work, which had been paralyzed, was resumed in January using resources made possible by the Transition PEC. The measure increased by R$ 18.8 billion the budget of the Ministry of Transport to intensify works on highways and railways in the country.
During his speech, Lula thanked deputies and senators who voted in favor of the proposal and allowed the resumption of works. “The approval of the PEC is the reason why I am here today saying to you: Brazil is working again, Brazil is working again. I will need all MPs to make the changes we need for the country,” he said.
“From here in the city of Maruim, I am announcing that more than 14 thousand works that were paralyzed in the country in the last six years, these works will work again, because Brazil needs to grow, generate jobs, income, consumption, generate education, improvement of people’s quality of life”, completed Lula.
The Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, explained that the objective is to deliver all the stretches of the BR-101 works, which is fundamental for the development of the Northeast, until the end of the Lula government. According to him, Lula’s visit to this work symbolizes the resumption of more than 100 road works, of the same proportion, in the country.
“We have 453 contracts at Dnit [Departamento Nacional de Infraestrutura de Transportes]at the Ministry of Transport, who were either paralyzed or receiving less resources than the works needed to move at the pace people expect,” said Renan Filho.
After a visit to the construction site and a ceremony alluding to the visit, Lula participated in a lunch meeting with the governor of Sergipe, Fábio Mitidieri, and the state’s representatives in the National Congress. The delegation is expected to return to Brasília at the end of the afternoon.
