President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received a phone call from two heads of government this Thursday (22), in Brasília, the Planalto Palace reported. One of the calls was with the president of Finland, Alexander Stubb, elected in February this year.
According to the Brazilian government, the two presidents had an “in-depth conversation” about the wars between Ukraine and Russia and Israel against the Gaza Strip, in Palestine.
They also discussed reforming global governance institutions, expressing similar views on the importance of having more representatives from Latin America, Africa and Asia on the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
Lula invited Finland to participate in the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, which will be launched during the G20 Summit in November in Rio de Janeiro.
Global Alliance
In another phone call, Lula spoke with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, who took office recently in July. The Netherlands is the largest market for Brazilian exports in Europe and the fourth largest in the world, behind only the United States, China and Argentina.
Lula also invited the European country to join the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. According to the Planalto Palace, Lula and Dick Schoof also discussed the situation in Venezuela, since the Netherlands, like Brazil, participated in the negotiation of the Barbados Agreements, signed between the government and the opposition of the neighboring country last year.
