President Lula spoke by telephone, this Monday morning (26), with the President of the United States, Donald Trump. In the conversation, Lula suggested that Trump include a seat for Palestine in the Peace Council, a collegiate created, created and chaired by the American. Furthermore, Lula suggested that the council limit itself to discussing issues related to the Gaza Strip.
The content of the conversation between the presidents was released by Palácio do Planalto, in a note. According to Planalto, the Brazilian president also reinforced the importance of comprehensive reform at the United Nations (UN)increasing the number of permanent members of the Security Council.
Lula was one of the leaders invited to take a seat on the council, but has not yet responded to the invitation. Last week, at an event in Salvador, he came to criticize the proposal to create the Peace Council. For the Brazilian president, Trump wants to create a new UN to be the owner.

Venezuela
In the conversation, the two presidents also discussed issues related to Venezuela. Lula reiterated what he has already been saying on the subject: the importance of maintaining peace on the continent.
Furthermore, Lula once again proposed strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fight against organized crime.
“Lula expressed interest in strengthening the partnership in the repression of money laundering and arms trafficking, as well as freezing the assets of criminal groups and exchanging data on financial transactions. The proposal was well received by the North American president”, stated Planalto.
Economy
Still according to Planalto, Lula and Trump also talked about strengthening the relationship between Brazil and the USA, and how this has a positive impact on the economy.
“President Trump stated that the economic growth of the United States and Brazil is positive for the region as a whole. Both welcomed the good relationship built in recent months, which resulted in the lifting of a significant part of the tariffs applied to Brazilian products.”
The two met in person for the first time at the UN General Assembly in New York in September. It was a quick meet and greet, but the American said having had “excellent chemistry” with Lula.
Both met again in October, at the 47th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), in Malaysia. This time, they were able to sit and talk in a meeting classified as “very positive” by the Brazilian chancellor, Mauro Vieira. In the month following the meeting, the United States removed the 40% surcharge on several Brazilian products.
Visit to the USA
During the conversation, which lasted 50 minutes, it was agreed that Lula would visit the United States. No date has been set, but the visit should take place after the Brazilian president’s trip to India and South Korea, in February.
