President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva published a message alluding to World Health Day, celebrated this Friday (7). In the text, he cites the constitutional guarantee of health as a universal right, mainly through the Unified Health System (SUS). Lula mentions Brazil’s main challenges in the area, including the need to allocate doctors to communities in the interior and on the outskirts of large cities, in addition to ending queues for exams, consultations and surgeries.
“In Brazil, fortunately, we have the constitutional guarantee of a Unified Health System, the SUS, which ensures free access to services for the entire population. And we constantly strive to transform into ever better services what our Constitution determines” , he wrote.
“This involves strengthening the SUS, taking doctors and all health professionals to the outskirts of large cities and distant communities in the Brazilian interior. It also involves carrying out intense campaigns to overcome the problems that still arise from the covid-19 pandemic: the accumulated queues for consultations, exams and elective surgeries and the drop in vaccination rates”, adds the message.
The president also highlighted the importance of the World Health Organization (WHO) and praises the work of the entity’s current management, led by Ethiopian Tedros Adhanom.
“The WHO has made extraordinary contributions to humanity. And it deserves a profound tribute for celebrating its 75th anniversary also on this April 7th. Thus, I would like to record my thanks to the Director General, Tedros Adhanon, for his leadership at the forefront of of the Organization”.
In a social network, the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, commented on President Lula’s message and stressed that the health of one depends on the health of all.
