“President Lula will, if not this January, in February, sign a decree regulating distance learning in Brazil. This is not just a concern for undergraduate courses – 40% of nursing courses, for example, were already being offered remotely. How can you train a nurse remotely?”

Camilo recalled that, in 2023, the ministry had already determined that any distance higher education course must have at least 50% of the load being completed in person. “When we arrived, we were impressed. More than 84% of degree courses were 100% distance learning”.

“Now, the president will sign a new decree that will regulate distance learning. To say the following: the course must be 100% in person; certain areas can be hybrid – we are creating this category”, he said. “It will be another important step towards the quality of education.”
