President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed, this Monday (30), the term of office of Gabriel Galípolo as the new president of the Central Bank (from 2025 to 2028), as confirmed by the Government Communication Secretariat. He replaces Roberto Campos Neto in the position. The signing, which took place at Palácio da Alvorada, was attended by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. Galípolo takes office on January 1st.
Gabriel Galípolo was nominated by the president and underwent a hearing in the Senate on October 8th. The new president of the BC is from São Paulo, 42 years old and was executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance at the beginning of Fernando Haddad’s administration. Galípolo has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics from the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC-SP), has worked as a university professor (2006 to 2012) and was president of Banco Fator (2017 to 2021).
New directors
In addition to Galípolo, three other directors nominated for the institution also had their names confirmed: Nilton José Schneider (for the Monetary Policy Directorate), Izabela Moreira Correa (for the Relationship, Citizenship and Conduct Supervision Directorate) and Gilneu Astolfi Vivan (for the Regulation Board). The Senate had approved the names of the new directors on December 10th.
Nilton David, since 2019, has been head of Treasury operations at Banco Bradesco and manager of teams that carry out operations with various indices and financial assets, in São Paulo, New York and Europe. Graduated in production engineering from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1994, he worked in financial institutions in Brazil and abroad.
Izabela Correa graduated in public administration from Fundação João Pinheiro (FJP) in 2003. She has a master’s degree in political science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), a doctorate in government from the London School of Economics and Political Science and post-doctoral research from Oxford University School of Government. In the academic field, she was a professor of public management and public policies at Insper.
Gilneu Vivan is an economist and has a specialization in financial management from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. In 2003, he completed a master’s degree in economic business management from the University of Brasília. Until this year, he was responsible for the Department of Regulation of the National Financial System.
