Ministers Ricardo Lewandowski, of Justice and Public Security; Macaé Evaristo, Human Rights and Citizenship; and Anielle Franco, from Igualdade Racial, head to Rio de Janeiro at 3pm this Wednesday (29) for a meeting with the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro. The director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, will also be part of the delegation. The information was confirmed by Lewandowski himself after a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, held in the morning.
The meeting with the president, at Palácio da Alvorada, to discuss the Operation Containmentwhich took place this Tuesday (28), in Rio de Janeiro, lasted around three hours and also included the participation of other members of the first echelon. Lewandowski stated that he will offer criminal experts and forensic doctors from the Federal Police and the National Force to help identify the bodies.
Operation Containment, which took place in the Alemão and Penha complexes, in the state capital, left more than 130 people dead, but the body count – many still being removed from forested areas by the residents of these communities – is not yet complete.
In a press conference this morning, the governor of Rio de Janeiro considered the operation “a success” and only regretted the deaths of four police officers in the action.
According to the Minister of Justice, Castro did not request the decree of a Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO) within the scope of this operation. If this request arrives, the decision will be made by the President of the Republic.

Most lethal operation in history
State security forces carried out the most lethal operation in history to combat the Red Command. In retaliation, the criminals closed 35 streets in different parts of the city, with vehicles crossed, garbage cans, barricades and piles of burning materials. For experts, the operation had a major impact on the capital of Rio de Janeiro and did not achieve the objective of containing organized crime, on the contrary, actions like this only strengthen violence.
The Chief Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, responded, on Tuesday, to the request of the governor of Rio de Janeiro to transfer to federal prisons of 10 inmates who allegedly led actions from within the prison that contributed to chaos in the city.
