President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva spoke out on social media about the death of actor and director Ney Latorraca. “Brazil says goodbye to the great Ney Latorraca, at 80 years old. An actor and director with remarkable charisma, he gave us great roles on television and in theater. It was the vampire Vlad, in VampBarbosa, from Pirate TVon TV, and Arandir, in The Kiss on the Asphaltwith Tarcísio Meira, in the cinema. In the theater, among many plays, he brought millions of Brazilians to the audience with the show The Mystery of Irma Vapalongside Marco Nanini, who entered the record books in 2003 for spending 11 years on display”.
“My condolences to family, friends and admirers of Ney Latorraca’s art,” said Lula in the message.
Actor Marco Nanini, who performed for several years with Latorraca in the play The Mystery of Irma Vap, wrote: “Dear Ney, today, on the day of your departure, I find myself immersed in the memories of our many stories. Actor of immense talent, generous and fun co-star. You, the protagonist of a brilliant career, are missed but also your mark”, wrote Nanini.
Santos, Latorraca’s favorite club, mourned the actor’s death and released a statement of condolence. A fan of the Vila Belmiro team, the artist has always expressed his passion for the club. “Santos Futebol Clube deeply regrets the death of actor Ney Latorraca. There were more than five decades of career dedicated brilliantly to theater, television and cinema”, said the association in a post on social media.
Actress Dadá Coelho also spoke out about Latorraca’s death. “How sad! Ney Latorraca is gone and, therefore, he will remain. Forever. What an immense loss. I’ve always been a fan of Ney. When I arrived in Rio, I lived in Lagoa for a few years, and I always found Ney walking. I would pass by on my bike and shout: I love you, prince!” He was always very friendly and kind, he waved with a smile.
Ney Latorraca’s wake will be this Friday (27), from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, in a ceremony open to the public.
