The President of the Republic Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva commented on Tuesday (02) the Judgment at the Supreme Court (STF) of former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven other defendants. Lula spoke to journalists after attending Journalist Mino Cartain São Paulo.
Bolsonaro is accused by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, of leading an attempted coup d’état to stay in power after electoral defeat in 2022.
“What is happening is that the facts are coming to light and people are starting to realize that the harmful period of Brazilian history we live,” said President Lula.
“And obviously the Mino Carta, if he had today, sitting in front of his machine, not the computer, his machine, or on the pen, would be writing who knows the most beautiful history of what has happened in recent years in Brazil.”
Asking about expectations regarding the Supreme Court’s judgment, Lula said he hoped “to be done,” based on the case and respect for the presumption of innocence.
“No one is judging anyone personally, that is, there is a lawsuit, has the case, has allegations, has evidence and that the person being accused has the right to presumption of innocence, he can defend himself as I could not defend myself. And I did not complain.

The president also commented on attempts at interference from US President Donald Trump.
“Look, I think there’s no reason to fearing the American accusation. What is happening to the United States is that it has exacerbated, you know, anything we were aware of in the history of humanity of a government to get judging the behavior of justice in another country. It’s an unbelievable business.”
Lula again said that Trump was not elected to be the emperor of the world, but stressed that if there is a willingness to negotiate, “Lulinha Paz and Love is back.”
“I have no interest in fighting with the United States of North America, no interest. I am interested in making this friendship of 201 years can live democratically over 201.”
