The PT candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said today (6th) that he intends to seek ways to reduce family indebtedness. “It is not enough for us to say that we are going to win the elections and increase people’s salary conditions and income. We will have to, at first, create conditions to negotiate these debts, whether with entrepreneurs in the retail sector or with city halls and states, in gas and electricity. In other words, with the banks.”
The statement was made in a speech during a campaign articulation meeting in a hotel in the city of São Paulo. Leaders of the parties that make up the coalition that supports Lula’s candidacy participated in the meeting.
In Lula’s assessment, without reducing indebtedness, families will have to reduce consumption. “Because if we don’t resolve the debt of these people, these people will be unable to continue consuming anything in this country,” she said.
Thus, according to the candidate, the economy will end up suffering negative impacts. “And if the people don’t have the power to consume, the economy doesn’t grow, commerce doesn’t sell, doesn’t manufacture, we have misfortune as has happened so many times in this country”.
In addition to indebtedness, Lula said he intends to pay attention to job creation, especially for those with a formal contract. “The people want to solve the problem of their debt, their unemployment. The people who end the informal economy, because they want to be full citizens. And the people want to eat and smile again in this country,” she added.
The candidate said that in this way it will be possible to restore the quality of life of the population that, according to him, has suffered great losses in recent years. “People know that they lived better, that they ate better, that they studied better and walked better. People know that they had much more expectation of a bright future than they do today, that life has become a nightmare”.
