The PT candidate for the presidency, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said today (12) which intends to transform environmental policy into an issue that is observed by all levels of the federal government. “Environmental policy will be dealt with transversally. That is, all ministers to haveno obligation with the climate issue”, he emphasized when receiving contributions to his government program from the former Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, who is also one of the founders and part of the national direction of the Rede Sustentabilidade party.
The document delivered by the former minister and former senator focuses on the idea of transitioning from the current economic model to a production model with less environmental impact and with attention to climate change. Financing actions for agricultural production with less environmental impact and less use of pesticides are also planned.
The PT candidate drew attention to the urgency of discussions on climate change. “Humanity is realizing that if we don’t work seriously, we will suffer the consequences, because we are destroying the world we live in”, he pointed out.
In this context, Lula believes that Brazil has the conditions to lead decision-making in international forums in facing the crisis. “This country has to become an international protagonist on the climate issue.”, he said.
The PT also wants to strengthen control mechanisms to reduce deforestation, illegal mining and other criminal activities, such as drug trafficking, in border regions. “We are proposing the creation of the Ministry of Public Security because we need to take into account that Brazil has almost 16 thousand kilometers of dry border, plus 8 thousand kilometers of maritime border”, he highlighted.
Lula also said again that he intends to encourage research and innovation around Amazonian biodiversity, including as a means of generating income for the populations that live in the forest region. “The Amazon has to be studied, researched, sovereignly under the control of Brazil. But we have to share with the science of the world the study of the biodiversity and riches of that region”, she added.
