President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned, this Wednesday (27), the law that authorizes the government to increase participation by up to R$500 million in the Operations Guarantee Fund (FGO) within the scope of the National Agricultural Strengthening Program Family (Pronaf).
The objective of Law 2,750/2024 is to reinforce guarantees of access to finance for farmers. A ceremony at Palácio do Planalto celebrated the new legislation that could benefit rural workers across the country.

When signing the law, Minister Paulo Teixeira, of Agrarian Development and Family Farming, emphasized that the investment will also be important to encourage healthy eating by benefiting ecological and organic agriculture through a Pronaf credit line.
Teixeira mentioned that there was an increase in financing for the production of items such as beans (176%), onions (56%), potatoes (24%), oranges (28%) and açaí (226%).

The government argues that family farming is an investment priority. In the Family Farming Harvest Plan 2023-2024, R$71.6 billion were allocated to Pronaf, which was 34% higher than the previous year and the largest in the historical series, as announced in July.
In the 2022/2023 harvest, according to the government, 1.4 million credit contracts were carried out through Pronaf. The quantity was higher in the harvest between July 2023 and June 2024, with 1.6 million operations (an increase of 16.2%).
There was also an increase in the amounts contracted by family farmers and rural producers. In 2022/2023, it was R$53.2 billion. In 2023/2024, the amount contracted through Pronaf was R$59.6 billion, 12.1% more.
Created in 1996, Pronaf aims to promote the sustainable development of rural areas with actions to implement increased production capacity, and the generation of jobs and income.
