The text was approved at the end of June by the Federal Senate. The sanction took place at the ceremony, at the Planalto Palace, with the presence of Lula, ministers, parliamentarians, business leaders and representatives of civil society.

“Women win an extra step in the struggle for participation, to hold important positions in governments and public companies,” said Lula.

Presented in 2021 by federal deputy Tábata Amaral (PSB-SP), the new law still depends on regulation, But it will be implemented gradually over three years. Women should occupy at least 10% of the first year, 20% in the second year and finally 30% in the third.

“We formulated the project four years ago, began a battle for his approval and now he is law. To say that these talented women with very heavy curricula, they are ready, ready to contribute to state advice, private companies’ councils, and to contribute to the public sector. What is missing for prejudice,” said the parliamentarian.

The text covers public companies, mixed economy societies and their subsidiaries and controlled. Other companies are also covered in which the Union, the States, the Municipalities or the Federal District hold the majority of the corporate capital with the right to vote.

Of the reserved posts, 30% will be intended for self -declared black or disabled workers. The quota policy should be reviewed after 20 years.

According to the Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck, the federal state -owned companies as a whole already have, on average, 25% of women ahead in the councils. “In theory, it seems that it is short, but it is very diverse among state -owned companies. Some have more than 50%, others have much less than 30%. So the average is 25%, but we need to move forward,” he noted.

If companies do not comply with the percentages provided for by law, following advice nominations are locked.
