President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva lamented, on the afternoon of this Friday (30), the death of two people and the dozens of injured in the roof collapse from the Morro da Conceição Sanctuary, in Recife, earlier.
“It was with great sadness that I learned of the two deaths and dozens of injuries, some in serious condition, at the Morro da Conceição Sanctuary, in the northern part of Recife. A tragedy. My solidarity with the victims, their families, friends and the city of Recife at this time,” wrote the president.
The roof of the Morro da Conceição Sanctuary collapsed at around 1:30 pm this Friday, during a distribution of basic food baskets. Teams from the Fire Department, the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu 192), the Military Police (PM) and the Civil Defense are on site, acting in emergency actions.
According to the mayor of the capital of Pernambuco, João Campos, two deaths have been confirmed. “I am at the Operations Center (COP) in Recife, coordinating the city’s actions in supporting the incident at the Morro da Conceição Church. Unfortunately, two deaths have already been confirmed, after the roof collapsed,” the mayor posted on social media.
The injured were taken to the Hospital da Restauração, in the city center, and to the Emergency Care Unit in Nova Descoberta, in the same region as the accident.
