The new president of the Northeast Consortium, the governor of Paraíba João Azevêdo (PSB), met this Tuesday (9) with president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to present demands from the region. A party colleague of vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, Azevêdo wants the federal government to listen to governors from the Northeast about the nominations of positions considered strategic for the region that have not yet been chosen by the new team.
Still in relation to the Northeast, João Azevêdo expects advances for the region in the tourism sector and in the production of renewable energies. “The Northeast cannot be seen today as it was 50 years ago. We are a region that generates great wealth”, he highlighted.
The governor of Paraíba said that the meeting was productive, of planning, in which the republican relationship between all the entities that govern the country began to be reestablished. “We will meet again to jointly present the claims of the Northeast and our region has set examples for the whole country in the area of health and in facing the pandemic”, said João Azevêdo.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Institutional Relations of the Presidency, Alexandre Padilha, pointed out that Governor João Azevêdo was the first to be received by President Lula in the administrative hearings, in a deference to the Northeast.
