President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received this Thursday (14) the credentials of eight new ambassadors in Brazil. The reserved ceremonies began at around 9:30 am, at Palácio do Planalto, in Brasília, with the presentation of the Argentine ambassador, Guillermo Daniel Raimondi. The last to hand over the documents was the Panamanian ambassador, Flavio Gabriel Méndez Altamirano, at around 11:30 am.

Traditionally, governments consult with the country abroad about appointing a new ambassador to work in its territory. In diplomacy, consultation is called agreementwhich may or may not be granted. The ambassador then assumes the post after delivering documents sent by the president of his country to the government of the country where he will work.
Presenting letters of credentials to the President of the Republic is a formality that increases the diplomat’s prerogatives in Brazil. If the credential is not received by the president, the ambassador cannot represent his country in official hearings or ceremonies, for example.
Attack
President Lula maintained his work agenda even after the terrorist act at Praça dos Três Poderes, on Wednesday night (14), in Brasília. On that occasion, locksmith Francisco Wanderley Luiz, aged 59, died after detonating explosives in front of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) building, around 7:30 pm.
Explosive devices were also found in the house where Francisco was staying, in Ceilândia, an administrative region about 30 kilometers from the center of Brasília, and in a car in the parking lot near a building attached to the Chamber of Deputies. The vehicle belonged to the locksmith and also exploded last night.
The Military Police of the Federal District carried out a sweep of all the locations mentioned, and the Federal Police opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the case.
Francisco was a candidate for councilor for the PL in Rio do Sul, Santa Catarina, in the 2020 elections. For the STF minister, Alexandre de Moraes, the attack had as a source of stimulus the political polarization installed in the country in recent years and the “cabinet of hate”set up during the government of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Later this afternoon, President Lula leaves for Rio de Janeiro, where he will preside over the G20 Leaders’ Summit next week and participate in other events. This year, Brazil is the president of the G20, a group of the 19 largest economies in the world, plus the European Union and the African Union.
