President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said this Monday (20) that the Casa Brasil Reform Program seeks to solve one of the most serious problems of the Brazilian people, particularly for vulnerable people, the “invisible”.
“It is important for the State to look at those people that the market is not interested in. The market does not like to earn little”, said Lula at the launch of the program.
The Reforma Casa Brasil program, according to the government, will allow Brazilian families to finance amounts starting at R$5,000 for renovations, expansions and adjustments to homes across the country.
“Not everyone needs to buy a new house”, he stated in a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto.
He said it is up to the country to look at people considered invisible. He says the program aims to get funding into the hands of those who need it most.

Quality leap
“This country is going to take a leap in quality. We see a report in the newspaper that there are millions of houses in Brazil that don’t have a bathroom”, he lamented.
The president said that it is not enough to govern from Brasília. “The people who need us don’t need billions, they don’t even need millions, they need a few thousand reais”, he stated.
Lula, at the event, argued that the most humble people can also move the economy.
“When the neighborhood’s economy starts to improve, everyone wants to renovate their house. There are houses with three garages for four cars, for five cars, and often the majority of poor people don’t have a room”, he mentioned.
Framework for housing
Also at the event, the coordinator of the Homeless Workers Movement, Eduardo Borges da Silva, saw the program as a milestone in the construction of popular housing in this country.
The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, who was at the ceremony, assessed that the program will provide more opportunities for those who live and need to improve the quality of their housing.
“For those who have a house yet to be built, a house to be restored, this R$30,000 or R$20,000 will be very important for the dignity of this family’s life.”
Haddad argued that the resource will pay off in the hands of the benefiting families. “The Central Bank presented to the National Monetary Council a new way of organizing the country’s savings. The savings account that finances popular housing”, he contextualized.
Financing
The financing payment term is up to five years (60 months). Reforma Casa Brasil is aimed at families who already have a property, but face structural or adaptation problems.
The value of the installments will be limited to 25% of family income. Each family can only have one active operation at a time.
