Lula inaugurates BRT system in Goiânia

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva inaugurated this Friday (6) a 17-kilometer stretch of the North-South BRT in Goiânia, the rapid public transportation system that should serve an average of 50,000 passengers per day in the initial phase of operations. The project received R$321.7 million in investments, R$140 million from the federal government and the remainder from the city of Goiânia.Lula inaugurates BRT system in Goiânia

This is the first time in this term that Lula has visited the capital of Goiás, whose governor is Ronaldo Caiado, an ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro. “I am certain that the announcements here today are more significant than the achievements of the previous four years of government for Goiás,” said Lula. “I would like to thank the vice-governor of Goiás, Daniel Vilela, for attending this event to inaugurate the first section of the North-South BRT in Goiânia and for the important announcements for education. This is an institutional event for the people of Goiás,” he added.

According to the government, the northern and northwestern areas of Goiânia, which are further away from the city center, will benefit greatly from the new BRT system due to its speed, comfort, and safety. The entire system has security cameras with 24-hour monitoring, including buses, terminals, and stations.

During the ceremony, the order was also signed to select the proposal for the purchase of 125 new buses with Euro 6 technology, a set of standards that define the maximum pollutant emission limits for diesel engines. The acquisition is taking place within the scope of the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) – Urban Mobility, in the Fleet Renewal – Private Sector sub-axis and will have financing of R$95.4 million from the Severance Pay Guarantee Fund (FGTS).

The Ministry of Cities also announced R$189.8 million in investments in Minha Casa, Minha Vida, with the signing of the ordinance that authorizes the contracting of 1,232 housing units. The authorization benefits the population of the municipalities of Rio Verde, Aparecida de Goiânia and Goiânia.

Education

During the event, the federal government’s investments in education in Goiás were also presented. The resources total R$820 million, coming from the New PAC.

In basic education, R$535.8 million will be invested to purchase school buses and build daycare centers and full-time schools. resources will be allocated to improve the infrastructure of federal universitiesan amount of R$ 142.4 million.

For consolidation and expansion of federal institutes in the state R$ 141.8 million are being invested.

President Lula laid the cornerstone for the construction of two campuses of the Federal Institute of Goiás, in the municipalities of Quirinópolis and Cavalcante, and a campus of the Federal Institute of Goiás, in Porangatu.
