Lula: fall in poverty is linked to lower inflation and higher wages

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva highlighted, this Wednesday (3), the reduction of poverty and extreme poverty in the country, announced earlier by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). According to the president, there is more money circulating among workers because of the general reduction in prices and rising wages.Lula: fall in poverty is linked to lower inflation and higher wages

“Today, we have the lowest accumulated inflation in four years. Today, we have the highest growth in the minimum wage, the highest growth in the wage bill in this country. Today, we have the lowest unemployment in the history of this country. And today, we have the lowest poverty rate in all 525 years of history of this country. For a very simple reason, the money is reaching the hands of the people”, he stated during a visit to the Ceará automotive hub, in Horizonte.

The ceremony marked the beginning of production of General Motors electric vehicles in Brazil.

The president also recalled the Income Tax exemption for those earning up to R$5,000 in salary, which comes into force from January, and the economy’s successive growth above 3% since 2023.

“It’s this country that we have to make happen, everyone has to participate in the wealth produced. That’s why we discounted Income Tax, because, in Brazil, the rich pay proportionally less than the poor”, he noted.

Renewable energy

In his speech after visiting the automotive factory, which will produce electric cars, Lula highlighted that Brazil already has 53% renewable energy, while developed countries want to reach 40% by 2050.

“That’s why the electric car is important, that’s why GM’s decision to come here is important, so we can show that this country doesn’t owe anyone anything,” he said.

For the vice-president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, the announcement reinforces the national automotive chain and encourages sustainable mobility in the country. He recalled that this is the third automobile factory that President Lula has reopened.

“When President Lula took office, the automotive industry was in crisis. Numerous factories closed and there was enormous idleness. The president launched, right from the beginning, the sponsored car to stimulate sales. In a single day, 29 thousand vehicles were sold”, he said.

Alckmin also recalled the launch of Nova Indústria Brasil (NIB). “And this new industry is represented here. It is an innovative industry”, added Alckmin.

Agenda

Earlier, still in Ceará, Lula participated in the delivery of new national teaching cards to teachers from the state, at an event in Fortaleza. At the time, he also signed the authorization for the third stage of works at the Aeronautical Technological Institute (ITA) in Ceará. With an investment of R$ 181.3 million, the act marks a new advance in the institution’s implementation project at the Fortaleza Air Base.
