President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended, on Wednesday night (29), that coordinated work is necessary to reach the “backbone of trafficking” in Brazil.
“We cannot accept that organized crime continues to destroy families, oppress residents and spread drugs and violence throughout cities. We need coordinated work that reaches the backbone of drug trafficking without putting police officers, children and innocent families at risk,” said the president in a post on social media.
Lula assesses that this coordinated work was what occurred in August at Operation Hidden Carbonconsidered by him as “the biggest operation against organized crime in the country’s history”.
According to the president, the actions at the time had the expected success by reaching “the financial heart of a large gang involved in drug sales, fuel adulteration and money laundering”.
Still in the post on the social network, Lula took the opportunity to defend the approval of the Security PEC, which was forwarded to the National Congress.
“We will ensure that the different police forces act together to combat criminal factions.”
Lula had not yet publicly spoken out about the results of the Operation Containmentwhich left at least 121 people dead in Rio de Janeiro. The president arrived in Brasília on Tuesday night (28) after a trip to Southeast Asia.
