For Lula, the unprecedented result achieved by the athlete demonstrates that Brazilian sport “has no limits”.
“It is a reflection of talent, dedication and continuous work to strengthen the sport in all its dimensions”, he added, mentioning that Lucas and the entire team involved in the achievement inspire new generations and expand the horizon of national sport.
Understand
THE slalom Giant consists of two descents on a route with poles stuck in the snow, the so-called doors, separated by about 25 meters. The skier must pass between them. Whoever has the lowest amount of time wins.
Born in Oslo, the capital of Norway, but of a Brazilian mother, Lucas completed the descents in 2 minutes and 25 seconds, being 58 hundredths ahead of the Swiss Marco Odermatt, who took silver. Bronze also went to an athlete from Switzerland, Loic Meillard.
Lucas took the lead on the first descent, completing the route in 1 minute, 13 seconds and 92 thousandths. Despite only setting the 11th best time on the next descent (1 minute, 11 seconds and 8 thousandths), the mark was enough for the Brazilian to stay ahead of the Swiss.
