The position, along with alcohumbre, were the senators Marcos Pontes (PL-SP) and Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), who had four votes each.

This is the second time that alcohubre has held the presidency of the Senate. He had already been president of the Legislative House between 2019 and 2021, when the country was ruled by then President Jair Bolsonaro.
Born in Macapá, he is in the second consecutive term as a senator. He is 47 years old, has been a councilman in the Amapa capital and, before his political career, acted as a merchant in his homeland.
