“Privatization will end in this country. They have already privatized almost everything, but it will end and we will prove that some public companies will be able to show their profitability. I, Aolizio Mercadante, heard criticism about rumors that you are going to be president of the BNDES. I want to tell you that this is not a rumour. Aloizio Mercadante will be president of the BNDES”, said Lula to an audience made up of journalists and hundreds of members of the working groups.

Then, the president-elect reinforced the vision he intends to implement in the public bank. “We need someone who thinks about development, someone who thinks about re-industrializing this country, about technological innovation, about financing small, medium and large entrepreneurs”, he said.

Transition

The government transition began in the first week of November, after the end of the second round of elections. In just over a month of work, the 31 thematic groups created by the transition team prepared two reports in each area. The documents systematize a diagnosis and present emergency proposals for the first 100 days of government. In all, around 940 people participated as volunteers in the transition.

“We can say that this was the most participatory transition of all governments. There were close to 1,000 collaborators, participants, but in reality if we count remote participation, there were more than 5,000 people who made their voluntary contribution, with an expense of up to trip”, said the vice-president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin, who was the general coordinator of the transition team.

In his speech, Lula stated that he was elected to recover the dignity of the population. “The people elected us so that we could recover the dignity of the people, so that they could recover the possibility of them going back to studying decently, going back to eating three times a day, so that we could recover fundamental education”. The president-elect also said that he intends to travel the world to regain Brazil’s international prestige and defended the strengthening of public services such as the Unified Health System (SUS) and structural reforms such as taxation.

Revocation

Shortly before being announced as the future president of the BNDES, Mercadante, who was coordinator of the work groups in the transition, also took stock of the works and informed that the thematic reports delivered have 23 pages with only the suggestion of norms to be revoked.

“The thematic reports are very rich. The preliminary and final ones, which arrived yesterday, are certainly the best starting point that the minister could have to start his term. each measure and its implications, and now it goes to the new ministers, who will re-analyze what is there and decide together with the president what will be revoked”, he said.
